Planning Commission opening
The city of Lake Stevens is seeking applicants to fill a vacant seat on its Planning Commission. Applicants must live in the city or within the Lake Stevens Urban Growth Boundary. The term expires Dec. 31, 2017. The Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month and advises the City Council on matters relating to land use, the Growth Management Act, comprehensive planning and zoning issues.
There also is a vacancy on the Design Review Board.
Applicants will be interviewed by the mayor. The deadline to apply is May 29. Applications are available at www.ci.lake-stevens.wa.us, or at City Hall, 1812 Main St. For more information, call Planning Director Becky Ableman McCrary at 425-377-3229.
Keep the kids safe: With warmer weather, Lake Stevens firefighters are reminding parents of the danger of children falling from open windows. More than 20 falls from windows were reported in the county last year.
Window screens are not enough to keep a child from falling, and even first-story falls can cause injuries. For toddlers, move furniture away from windows to discourage climbing. Parents also are asked to consider using window guards, which are available at toy stores and hardware stores.
