Three of the Salvation Army’s red donation kettles were recently stolen by a man wearing a Santa Claus hat and driving a pickup, said Dana Libby, who helps lead the Salvation Army in Snohomish County.
The kettles are often as valuable as the donations they contain, he said. Replacing each kettle and its stand will cost an estimated $150, he said.
“My big concern is that someone will pose as one of our kettle workers,” Libby said. “If they see somebody after 8 p.m., it’s not one of our folks.”
Kettle workers wear Salvation Army identification and an apron with the organization’s logo. The annual donations go to helping fund programs, including evening meals, for people in need.
