GRANITE FALLS — Turns out, the “10-foot alligator” still on the loose is just Tazz, an Argentine white tegu.
As of Saturday morning, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Dave Hayes said Tazz hadn’t been captured.
Locals first spotted the reptile on Friday evening near the 9400 block of Ray Grade Road. What was first reported as a 10-foot-alligator turned out to be a tegu, a legal exotic pet native to South America.
Tazz’s owner, Avery Coleman, told KIRO that the reptile is “incredibly docile and friendly.”
Exotic animals continue to make headlines in Washington, after four zebras escaped in late April from a trailer pulled over on I-90 in North Bend.
Officials captured three of the animals shortly after they escaped, but one zebra eluded capture for five days.
Law enforcement said residents who spot Tazz should call 911, so officials can advise Coleman, and Tazz can return home.
