GRANITE FALLS — From a pool that began with 35 candidates, the Granite Falls School Board has chosen the district’s next leader.
That decision was reached Tuesday when Josh Middleton was selected as the incoming superintendent. Both sides still must iron out the contract. He’s set to begin July 1.
Middleton is superintendent of Middleton Schools in Idaho. The same name of the superintendent and the district are pure coincidence.
He’s spent three decades working in education. Most of that time has been in Montana schools. Along the way he’s been a high school teacher and coach, and later moved into administration.
Middleton was chosen as a finalist at the school board’s meeting last week. He visited the district on Tuesday for a second interview and to meet with staff, students and parents.
“We felt his background, personality, and professional qualifications were an amazing fit,” the school board announced Wednesday in a press release. “The board is excited to collectively work with Dr. Middleton to provide the best educational outcomes for the students and the families we serve.”
The board voted 5-0 to hire Middleton. An agreement on his contract is expected by the end of the week, district spokeswoman Melanie Freeman said.
The district plans to host an open house soon where folks can meet the new leader. A date hasn’t been set.
Granite Falls Superintendent Linda Hall announced her retirement in February. She’s been with the district for about eight years. Her final day is set for June 30.
Granite Falls serves about 2,000 students.
