GREENBANK — The Coast Guard says a 97-foot fishing boat that ran aground in Puget Sound on the west side of Whidbey Island was refloated on Tuesday afternoon’s high tide with the help of a tug.
The crew of the Neahkahnie reported about 4 a.m. Tuesday that it ran aground near Bush Point, which is near Greenbank.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Nate Littlejohn says a salvage contractor completed an underwater inspection of the hull after the boat was refloated and found no damage.
Plans called for a tug to escort the boat to Seattle. The agency says the boat was carrying farmed salmon.
The Coast Guard says the Neahkahnie carried about 9,500 gallons of diesel fuel and oil. There were no reports of pollution.
The three people onboard were not hurt.
