EVERETT — An officer-involved shooting led to an hours-long standoff at an Everett motel Friday before a man and woman were taken into custody more than five hours later.
Around 11:30 a.m., Everett police officers responded to reports of a disturbance at the Farwest Motel in the 6000 block of Evergreen Way in Everett.
When officers spoke with the man and woman, they learned the man was armed with a handgun. An altercation occurred and an Everett police officer fired their weapon, said Nathan Fabia, spokesperson for the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
SMART consists of a group of investigators who typically respond to officer-involved shootings or significant uses of force.
The man and woman barricaded themselves into what was believed to be their room and Region 1 SWAT responded to the scene.
Sometime after 5 p.m. Friday, SWAT members took the man and woman into custody without incident. The man was treated at the scene for minor injuries before he was transported to a local hospital, Fabia said. The woman was not injured and neither were Everett police officers.
The man will be booked on investigation of first degree assault and criminal trespass, and the woman will be booked on investigation of criminal trespass.
As of 9:30 p.m. Friday, SMART members remained at the Far West Motel investigating the scene.
