MALTBY — Emergency crews shut down Highway 9 for about an hour on Monday while investigating a container labeled “corrosive.”
A crew from Fire District 7 determined that the 2-foot-by-2-foot container held muriatic acid. It is unclear how the container got there, Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary said. There was no crash reported in the area. The container was found about 1 p.m.
Muriatic acid is a common corrosive available at home improvement stores. It can be used to clean concrete and bricks.
