SEATTLE — The state Transportation Department says the work to replace expansion joints on the I-90 floating bridge has gone faster than expected.
The department says the express lanes that were shut down May 4 will reopen by Sunday morning, several days ahead of schedule.
The department say commuters between Seattle and and Mercer Island should prepare for a longer disruption in July when it reroutes westbound traffic across the bridge to replace expansion joints on those lanes.
Ovarall, it’s an $8 million project to fix joints that hold the floating section of the 20-year-old bridge to shore. The joints cracked under changing traffic and water conditions.
