YAKIMA — The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate who was found in his jail cell with a towel around his neck.
The county corrections department said Wednesday that Douglas Kemp was found alone in his cell Monday night. He was taken to Yakima Regional Medical Center, where he died Tuesday morning.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine cause of death.
County corrections director Ed Campbell says officers last checked on Kemp about 30 minutes before finding him unresponsive at 10:26 p.m. The department is conducting an internal investigation.
Kemp was being held on attempted murder, burglary, assault and other charges. He has been in custody since June.
