EVERETT — A brush fire the size of a football field broke out along northbound I-5 around 3:30 p.m. Monday, slowing traffic on a record-setting hot day.
The blaze was sparked by a car that caught fire. Flames quickly spread into a field east of the interstate, just north of the Snohomish River Bridge, according to William Glahn, a Washington State Patrol trooper.
Two of three traffic lanes were closed. It took about an hour to extinguish the flames.
There were no reported injuries from the fire as of Monday evening.
