JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD — A Lewis-McChord soldier is a person of interest in the slaying of a Kirkland woman.
Spokesman Joe Piek told The Seattle Times the 19-year-old soldier was booked into the base corrections facility Nov. 30 for being absent without leave.
Army officials were notified the same day he’s under investigation in connection with the death in the early morning hours of Nov. 30 of 19-year-old Scarlett Paxton. She suffered a fatal neck wound at her Kirkland apartment where she was found bleeding by her boyfriend.
Kirkland police spokesman Lt. Mike Murray said the soldier had been questioned by police the same day as the slaying in connection with an unrelated 911 call. Murray said the soldier and Paxton did not know each other.
