Man accused of raping woman he met online

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE – An Issaquah man is behind bars on suspicion of raping a Mountlake Terrace woman he met on MySpace.com.

Jonathan Reese, 31, appeared briefly Wednesday in Everett District Court where he was ordered jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Mountlake Terrace police arrested him Tuesday for investigation of second-degree rape.

Police believe Reese and the woman corresponded over the Internet for three weeks before she invited him to her home May 30.

Reese told police he and the woman engaged in consensual sex. She reported that he chased her into her bedroom, threatened to harm her family and raped her, according to court documents.

The woman said she invited Reese to her home on the condition that no sex would be involved. Police believe Reese agreed to this, based on Internet chat logs they recovered, according to court papers.

The investigation continues.

“We think there are possibly other victims out there because of his conversations on MySpace and the number of people he’s communicated with,” Mountlake Terrace police Sgt. Mark Connor said Wednesday.

Last December, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office investigated Reese for reportedly sexually assaulting an Everett woman he’d known online for three years, sheriff’s spokesman Rich Niebusch said. Reese was not arrested .

The Mountlake Terrace woman, who is in her mid-20s, said she ignored Reese’s early requests to meet her.

The woman told police that Reese became sexually aggressive once he was inside her home.

She said she tried locking herself in her bedroom, but Reese forced his way inside and said he’d harm her family if she didn’t do as he said, according to the court documents.

Mountlake Terrace police tracked down Reese by using information from his MySpace.com account, Connor said. They arranged to interview him Tuesday.

He was arrested after the interview.

“His story was somewhat consistent (with the woman’s story), but it was kind of vague in certain areas,” he said.
