STANWOOD — Police shot and killed a man early Sunday after an apparent domestic violence incident.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Port Susan Place about 2:40 a.m.
A woman, 38, told 911 that her boyfriend had assaulted her and that he had a weapon, officials said. The kind of weapon was not disclosed.
When police arrived, “the suspect was given verbal commands,” and one of three responding deputies opened fire, according to a news release.
The woman and her three children were in a bedroom at the time.
The deputy who fired his duty weapon has been in law enforcement more than 20 years. He was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
The investigation is being conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team. The team, known as SMART, draws detectives from around the county to respond to incidents where police use fatal force. Their completed cases are forwarded to the county’s prosecuting attorney, who determines whether the force was justified. That process often takes a year or longer.
No other details were being made public Sunday, said Julie Moore, a city of Lynnwood official who serves as a SMART spokeswoman.
