MILL CREEK — A Mill Creek man has admitted to hitting a bicyclist and taking off in August 2015.
The victim, a 53-year-old man, suffered a broken leg, a broken arm and a broken jaw, as well as internal injuries. Police quickly identified a suspect based on witness reports and pieces of the car that were left behind at the scene near 35th Avenue SE and Silver Crest Drive.
The driver, Aaron Rosenstein, 42, pleaded guilty in December to felony hit-and-run. He was sentenced last week to three months in jail. He has to report to the jail to start his sentence by Feb. 8.
A judge denied Rosenstein’s request to convert the time into house arrest. Rosenstein also lost his driver’s license for a year.
Rosenstein admitted that he had been drinking beer before the crash but denied being intoxicated, according to the charging papers. His lawyers told the court that he thought he hit a deer or some kind of object in the road. He said he didn’t realize it was a person until he saw the fire trucks.
His lawyers told the judge he was “deeply sorry” for what happened. He works in information technology, and his work will be affected by his sentence, they said.
Rosenstein has significant criminal history from the 1990s, including nine felony convictions and seven driving-related misdemeanors, court papers show.
He faced up to nine months for the crash under state sentencing guidelines.
