WINLOCK — A lawyer for the estate of a woman who left nearly $1 million to Winlock said the city can’t use the money to fill pot holes.
Evelyn Miller specified the trust money must be used for economic development to attract professional services such as doctors, lawyers and accountants who should occupy existing buildings.
Mayor Glen Cook told The Daily News he hoped the money could match grants for much needed repairs to water and sewer systems. The lawyer for the trust said the improvements would have to be closely tied to economic development.
Miller died at age 100 in 2012. Her bequest was made public at Monday’s city council meeting. Her brother was a former mayor of the Lewis County town and her husband ran a Winlock appliance store.
