LAKE STEVENS — People who live in much of the area that became part of the city of Lake Stevens last winter, and some other areas nearby, will see their addresses and ZIP codes change beginning today.
Addresses in the southwestern part of Lake Stevens currently listed as Everett 98205 will change to Lake Stevens 98258 on July 1.
The U.S. Postal Service will no longer use the 98205 ZIP code because only a small number of people would be left with that ZIP after the annexation, said Diane “Scotty” Swift, community programs planner for the city of Lake Stevens.
The postal service is dividing the remaining 98205 addresses between Lake Stevens 98258 and Everett 98201.
As a result, some people who were not annexed last December will receive new ZIP codes along with the new Lake Stevens residents. The postal service has sent out letters to all residents who will be affected by the change, Swift said.
Mail will be automatically forwarded for 12 months following the address change. Still, residents are responsible for notifying potential senders.
