OLYMPIA — The Olympia Film Society has bought the historic Capitol Theater where it has been a longtime tenant.
The Olympian says the sale of the 77-year-old downtown landmark was announced Friday. Real estate broker Ryan Clintworth tells the newspaper that Gary Holgate, of Chehalis, sold the theater earlier this month for $300,000. He says Holgate still owns part of the Capitol Theater building, which includes retail and office space.
The nonprofit film society has been screening movies in the theater since 1986. Its leaders say it will look for new money sources to restore the theater to its former grandeur.
