EVERETT — A new seasonal outdoor ice rink at Everett’s waterfront did not open as planned last weekend.
The Port of Everett announced it would unveil the rink, “Pacific Ice,” last Saturday near Hotel Indigo. It was to be the first year of an annual attraction. However, the rink was not ready for the public. Port spokesperson Catherine Soper said the opening was delayed because the ice needed more time to freeze. A major windstorm last weekend extended the delay, she said.
The rink is now set to open 3 p.m. Friday, said Joe Nichols, president of Blue Line Sports & Entertainment.
Anticipation has been high for a new family friendly activity on the waterfront. Over 2,500 people “liked” a post about it on The Herald’s Facebook page.
According to the port, the 30-by-60-foot rink was supposed to host skaters from Nov. 27 to Jan. 31, a buzz-worthy piece of the city’s monthlong Wintertide celebration.
