PORTLAND, Ore. – It’s going to be a hectic Mother’s Day for Rhonda Ford.
The 26-year-old delivered three girls and two boys by Caesarean section late Wednesday night at Oregon Health &Science University. The naturally occurring quintuplet birth is believed to be one of the first in Oregon.
The Grants Pass woman and her husband Chris Ford, 26, already have a 4-year-old son. The family was not available for comment Thursday. According to their Web site, they wanted a baby and were surprised to find out they’d be having five.
The OHSU medical staff said the mother and babies, who all weigh less than two pounds, are doing better than expected.
The family now faces the challenge of how to raise their family. The Fords, who live in a single-wide mobile home, are seeking donations to get into a larger home and pay for items for the children, their Web site states.
