Old warplanes to get flight exercise
Paul Allen’s Flying Heritage Collection has announced a schedule of flying days for some of its vintage aircraft this summer at the Arlington Airport.
The Microsoft co-founder has dozens of rare, vintage World War I and World War II planes in hangars at the Arlington Airport.
Several of the planes in the collection have been restored to flying condition.
Private tours have been available by reservation, but now the flying schedule is being released so the public can watch.
Suggested viewing spots are on the east side of the airport, 18204 59th Drive NE.
The first flights will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday, and will continue at the same time every other Saturday through July.
In August, the only flights will be at Seafair.
Three more flight days are scheduled Sept. 9, 23 and Oct. 14 at the Arlington Airport.
This weekend’s first flights will be the P-51D Mustang and the Polikarpov U-2/PO-2.

Yo-yo club plans performance
Youth members of The Pacific Northwest Yo-Yo Club will perform noon-4 p.m. Saturday at Imagine Children’s Museum.
They’ll teach visitors some of their award-winning yo-yo tricks, and kids will be invited to decorate a yo-yo to take home.
All activities are free with museum admission, $6 for everyone 1 year and older. The museum is located at 1502 Wall St., Everett.
Port Gardner to talk about crime
Port Gardner Neighborhood Association’s June meeting on Monday will focus on organizing block watches.
Block watch programs are seen as a way to reduce a recent rise in crime, confront code compliance issues and build community in neighborhoods.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at 2911 Bond St.
School performs ‘Annie Jr.’ tonight
Evergreen Middle School, 7621 Beverly Lane, presents performances of “Annie Jr.,” the tale of a precocious orphan girl, tonight and Saturday.
The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5, or $20 per family. The public is invited.
Lake Stevens
Committee plans for drug tests
A committee charged with planning the details of a new random drug testing program at Lake Stevens High School will meet 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the administration building, 12309 22nd St. NE.
Decisions include how much to spend, which extracurricular groups to include in testing, what type of test to use, how to randomly select students and what to do when test results come back positive.
Public comment will be taken at 6 p.m.
Ceremony for Flag Day planned
A public flag retirement ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Flag Day, in front of the downtown Lake Stevens fire station, 2100 Grade Road.
Any United States flag that is faded, torn or no longer serviceable can be brought in for proper disposal under the United States flag code.
A ceremony will be performed by Boy Scouts from Troop 42 in conjunction with American Legion Post 181.
Used flags can also be given to a local Scout or Legion member for delivery to the ceremony.

Golf tournament kicks off festival
The Marysville Strawberry Festival begins today with a golf tournament at 7 a.m. at Cedarcrest Golf Course, 6810 84th St. NE.
The golf tournament will be a four-member scramble format with awards for low gross, closest to the pin and longest drive.
Hole-in-one contests for a new car and a $10,000 putt opportunity will be offered.
Strawberry Festival events continue through June 18. The Grand Parade is at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 17.

Mariner Moose to meet children
The Mariner Moose will meet children who belong to Monroe Miracle League at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lake Tye Park, 14964 Fryelands Blvd. Afterward, children will play baseball. The league needs volunteers to bring drinks and snacks to make sure everyone is served.

Class scheduled to discuss bird flu
The public is invited to an information class hosted by Snohomish Fire and Rescue, 7-9 p.m. June 16. It will be at Harvey Auditorium,1525 Ave. D.

Japanese students visit this summer
Cultural Homestay International is looking for host families for 20 Japanese boys who will be visiting Stanwood July 15 to Aug. 3.
