Overturned trailer spills fish onto I-5 near Arlington, closing lanes

The crash blocked all lanes, forcing drivers going north during rush hour to use the left shoulder.

ARLINGTON — Well, that must stink.

Just before 8 a.m. Thursday, a semi truck struck the guardrail, causing its attached trailer to roll over on I-5 north just south of Arlington, according to Washington State Patrol. The truck was transporting fish. When the trailer rolled over, the fish spilled over about 40 yards of the freeway, trooper Kelsey Harding said.

The crash blocked all lanes, forcing drivers going north during the morning rush hour to use the left shoulder. The lanes reopened just after 9:45 a.m.

The semi driver was not injured, Harding said.

“The fish did not make it though, unfortunately,” she said.

Crews were working on getting a sweeper out to clean up the fish, as well as a tow for the truck and trailer, according to state patrol.
