MARYSVILLE — Officers arrested a Marysville man last month on allegations he kidnapped a woman and drove her around for hours while armed with a gun.
The suspect, 38, was arrested for investigation of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, second-degree malicious mischief and resisting arrest. Deputies wrote in a police report that he is an “extreme risk to the public.”
On Thursday, Everett District Court Judge Tam Bui set bail at $150,000.
On Oct. 18, a woman was visiting a friend on Lakewood Road in Arlington when she encountered a stranger on the property, Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy Jason Harris wrote in a police report. The man asked her to follow his car because he didn’t have working taillights, and didn’t want to get pulled over.
She drove closely behind the man’s Mercedes before he stopped in a gravel driveway, Harris wrote. She stopped her car, and got out to grab a sweater from her trunk. The man then jumped in her driver’s seat, demanding she get back in the car.
The suspect, armed with a knife and gun, drove around for hours, claiming drones and unmarked police cars were following them, Harris wrote.
The woman repeatedly asked him to let her go, according to the police report. The man brought her to an abandoned house, where he left the car briefly. When he got back in, he told the woman to lay down in the backseat so she couldn’t see where they were going.
The suspect drove to his mother’s apartment at the Vintage at Lakewood apartments in Marysville, the police report read. The man brought the woman inside, putting tires in front of the door so she could not escape. His mother reportedly asked the woman if she was OK.
She also gave the woman her name and phone number on a piece of paper, according to police.
The suspect and the woman eventually left, driving to the Shell Gas Station at 172nd Street St. NE, according to the police report. The man took the woman’s EBT card to buy some items. While inside, the woman told the clerk she was being held against her will, but not to call 911 out of fear that the man would kill her.
They continued driving for several more hours, Harris wrote. He threatened to kill her and her family if she talked to police.
The man eventually drove back to where his car was parked back in Arlington, the police report read. He got out of the woman’s car, taking her ID, money and cards.
In February, the woman informed deputies she identified the suspect through social media, according to the report.
On March 12, police located the suspect at his father’s home in the 7600 block of 319th Pl NW in Stanwood, according to Harris’ report. The man drove his car into a fence trying to escape.
The suspect admitted to police that he met the woman that night at the house on Lakewood Road, but that they instead went to dinner in Seattle, according to police. He denied harming her or taking any of her belongings.
He remained in the Snohomish County Jail this week.
