STANWOOD — After getting into an argument about goats Wednesday, two Stanwood farmers took to blows — until one hit the other with a pitchfork, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 5 p.m., two farm workers in the 1800 block of Pioneer Highway were working in a barn, according to the sheriff’s office.
The two men got into a “fight over goats,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe said. One of the men, 39, grabbed a pitchfork and approached the other man, 27.
The unarmed man punched the other in the face, O’Keefe said. The 39-year-old man reportedly struck him in the head with the pitchfork.
The unarmed man’s brother, who was working in the barn’s nearby milk room, overheard the commotion and broke it up, O’Keefe said. He disarmed the man with the pitchfork, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect fled.
Officers found the wounded man sitting on a couch with a bloody towel held to his head, according to a police report. The man reported he was unsure if he was stabbed by the pitchfork or struck. He was taken to the hospital for a head wound.
Shortly after, deputies used a police dog to track down the suspect, arresting him for investigation of second-degree assault. He remained in the Snohomish County Jail on Thursday.
