Former Everett Mayor Ed Hansen has endorsed challenger Ray Stephanson in the Nov. 4 general election for mayor.
Stephanson is running against incumbent Frank Anderson, a council member who was appointed to take over for Hansen when he left the office.
In an advertisement in Tuesday’s Herald, Hansen criticized Anderson for using $4.6 million of the city’s $22.3 million surplus to balance the 2004 budget, saying it is "inadvisable and dangerous to Everett’s long-term financial health."
Stephenson worked for Hansen as his executive director for a time when he was mayor.
Hansen is now general manager of the Snohomish County PUD.
Candidates for county executive, County Council District 3, and Everett mayor have been invited to participate in a candidates’ forum that will be held from 6:30-9 tonight.
The forum will be held in the Jackson Center, located on the Everett Community College campus, 2000 Tower St., Everett.
The sponsors of the event include the Snohomish County League of Women Voters, Washington State Commission on African-American Affairs, Washington State Commission on Asian-Pacific Affairs and 1000 Friends of Washington.
