Snohomish County PUD’s refrigerator recycling bonanza has come to an end – for now.
The PUD had hoped to recycle 1,000 refrigerators by the end of the year by paying customers $35 to give up their aging refrigerators and freezers.
As it turns out, it took less than two days.
On Monday, appointments were made to pick up 777 refrigerators and freezers, and by noon Tuesday appointments had been made for the remaining 223 spots.
But don’t despair if you have a creaky old beast you want to go away. The PUD has instructed its partner, JACO Environmental of Everett, to start a waiting list.
In the meantime, the powers that be at the PUD are trying to find out if it’s possible to extend the program, said Neil Neroutsos, a spokesman for the utility district.
If you want to get on the waiting list, call 877-577-0150. If you have a refrigerator that doesn’t work, call 800-414-5072. You’ll have to pay $25 to have JACO pick up a nonworking refrigerator.
