LYNNWOOD — The city of Lynnwood has partnered with local eateries in April to hold its first dining month — a promotional effort aimed at building awarness of the community’s food scene.
Twenty-seven restaurants are participating, with most offering discounts or free appetizers, said Ryan Bush, tourism/project manager for the city of Lynnwood.
“A lot of people think Lynnwood has just chain restaurants, but we have had a lot of locally owned restaurants with international cuisine that have opened in the last several years,” he said.
A $25,000 Snohomish County tourism promotion grant is being used to for digital advertisements and radio advertisements to promote dining month.
“We’re hoping restaurant week will bring us some new business,” said Jeff Romero, owner/chef of LASA Sandwiches & Pearls, which features Philippine food and blended drinks. “Not all people are familiar with the cuisine, and we hope a promotion will get them to try it.”
He said the eatery plans to offer complementary half-sides for those purchasing a Lechon Kawali sandwich, which consists of a Filipino, crispy, deep-fried pork belly.
To participate in Lynnwood’s Best Bites Dining Month, you must register online at explorelynnwood.com. The website also lists the 27 businesses participating in the dining month as well as the discounts offered by each restaurant.
Bush said a majority of the restaurants are offering some type of discount or free food.
Bush said the restaurants will be polled at the end of the month to gauge whether the month-long event brought more business and help decide whether future food months will be planned.
