Sophomore wants to help the hungry

Jackson High School sophomore Cameron Bitz, as part of a school community service project, asks people to donate to their local food banks.

“It’s a good time to remind ourselves, as we are planning vacations and barbecues, to remember the ones less fortunate,” Cameron said.

He offers the following statistics: in the United States, 13 million children live in households where people have to skip meals and, in 1990, more than one-third of the world’s children under 5 – some 174 million – were malnourished.

Everett High seniors to unveil sports wall

The donor’s plaque and the improved sports wall inside Everett High School’s gym will be unveiled at 5 p.m. Thursday. Refreshments, including cake and coffee, will be provided.

Four year’s worth of Everett High School seniors have passed this project along in an effort to document Everett’s sports success over its 112-year history. The donor plaque recognizes people and businesses that contributed money to make the project possible.

Snohomish to study book review process

The Snohomish School District’s curriculum materials committee will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Resource and Service Center, 1601 Ave. D, to review the process for adopting materials for kindergarten to sixth-grade science classes.

Sultan students paying it forward

After watching the movie “Pay it Forward,” in which a boy sets out to start a chain of good deeds, Betty Donaldson’s students at Sultan Middle School are doing their part. Student Molly Yarborough is supporting the Sultan Food Bank’s monthlong drive that ends June 5. Molly collected nearly $200 and several bags of food at local stores and in her neighborhood.

Golf event to help Lake Stevens High

The Purple and Gold Club golf tournament, which benefits Lake Stevens High School activities, is scheduled for June 5 at Gleneagle Golf Course, 7619 E. Country Club Drive, Arlington. Assistant principal switches positions

Michael R. Moore, the assistant principal at Harbour Pointe Middle School, will take the same position at Mariner High School this summer. Before coming to the Mukilteo School District, Moore was dean of students and athletic director at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle.
