EDMONDS — A runaway semi truck crashed through a house’s brick wall Monday afternoon, narrowly missing small children.
No one was hurt when the truck plowed into the home around 1 p.m. in the 1100 block of Olympic Avenue, rolling past kids who were playing outside, according to Edmonds police.
The truck took out a utility pole and left a gaping hole in the house, feet from where one child had been napping, police said.
City police and Washington State Patrol troopers were investigating exactly what happened. Officers learned a private company was picking up equipment from a construction site uphill, at 11th Place North and Viewland Way. The workers hooked up the tractor to a flatbed trailer that was loaded with an excavator. The workers were making sure the load was secure when the wheels started to roll, according to police.
The incident blocked roads near Edmonds Elementary School, rerouting buses and parents’ afterschool plans.
