STEVENS PASS — The 2023-24 ski season at Stevens Pass will be delayed due to minimal snow.
The season was originally set to begin Friday. As of Tuesday, resort staff had not released a new planned start date.
The forecast for later this week offered hope for resorts.
On Thursday, forecasters predicted a 50% chance of snow in Stevens Pass and a 100% chance Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
In light of the season’s delay, the resort will host a rail session 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with food and drinks available. The resort has some snow at the base, so guests can use several park features and a tow rope to commute back and forth.
“While we may not be taking our first turns yet, we do want to celebrate the start of winter as a community,” Stevens Pass spokesperson Amanda Bird said in an email.
Tickets for the rail session are $20, with a portion of proceeds going to the EpicPromise Foundation, a fund to support conservation and sustainability efforts at ski resorts.
Ski pass holders can attend the Saturday event for free.
The last day to purchase season passes is Sunday.
Crystal Mountain Resort still plans to kick off ski season Saturday — the first Western Washington ski area in the Cascades to do so.
