EVERETT — Six transit agencies in the Puget Sound region saw significant year-over-year increases in ridership between 2023 and 2024, King County Metro announced in a release Tuesday.
Snohomish County’s transit agencies, Community Transit and Everett Transit, saw some of the highest increases of all. Community Transit delivered 1.2 million more rides in 2024 than 2023, for a total of 8.4 million trips. Everett Transit delivered an additional 421,000 rides, bringing its total to 1.75 million in 2024.
Community Transit saw a 17% jump in ridership. Everett Transit saw a 32% increase, the highest of all six agencies.
“Surging transit ridership is evidence of a pent-up demand for safe, clean and reliable service,” Everett Transit Director Mike Schmieder wrote in the release.
The increases in ridership coincided with the opening of Link Light Rail in Snohomish County. Sound Transit’s new Lynnwood link extension opened in August after a 16-year wait. Ridership on the 1 Line increased in the months following the opening of the new stations, Sound Transit data shows.
Light rail is expected to arrive in Everett between 2037 and 2041.
Across the Puget Sound region, transit agencies provided 16.6 million more rides in 2024 than 2023, a 12% increase.
