EVERETT — An Amtrak train crashed into and killed a pedestrian Monday evening near Harborview Park in Everett, authorities said.
Around 6 p.m., a passenger train traveling from Seattle to Chicago struck a pedestrian on the track, Amtrak spokesperson Kelly Just said.
No other information about the deceased was available. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the person.
None of the 85 passengers on the train were injured, according to Amtrak.
Everett firefighters responded to clear the track, according to the fire department.
Trains paused as police investigated. After a delay of about three hours and 20 minutes, the train continued its journey, Amtrak reported.
“These incidents can affect everyone involved — those who are injured or die and their families, our train crews, and our passengers,” Just wrote in an email. “They also serve as critical reminders about the importance of obeying the law and of exercising extreme caution around railroad tracks and crossings.”
Everett police did not immediately respond to further questions about the crash.
