EVERETT — The Washington State Patrol is seeking witnesses and in-car video from a fatal collision that killed an 18-year-old Arlington man on I-5 north of Arlington on Monday afternoon.
Around 1 p.m. Monday, Washington State troopers responded to reports of a crash between a silver 2012 Infiniti G37 and a white 2020 Kenworth T680 semitractor-trailer just north of milepost 212 on I-5. The 18-year-old was declared dead at the scene.
Troopers initially said both vehicles were traveling north on I-5 when the Infiniti attempted to pass on the left shoulder. The Infiniti driver struck the semi’s trailer, causing it to lose control and end up in the right side ditch, troopers said.
WSP trooper Kelsey Harding said Tuesday witnesses to the collision reported the Infiniti was racing a green 2021 Dodge Challenger prior to the crash.
WSP detectives are asking witnesses of the collision or the racing prior to the collision to call Detective Jeff Rhue at (360) 654-1142 or email him at Jeff.Rhue@wsp.wa.gov. Detectives also request any in-car dash camera footage from the collision or the racing prior to the collision.
Troopers closed both northbound lanes of I-5 for several hours to investigate the crash. It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
