GLENNALLEN, Alaska — The Glenn Highway was a dangerous place for caribou last week.
Alaska State Troopers said three animals were killed by pickups in late-night crashes as caribou crossed the highway near 11 to 15 miles west of Glennallen.
Troopers said 52-year-old Thomas Morgan of Valdez was driving west just before midnight Thursday near Mile 174 and struck two caribou. Both were killed and salvaged.
Morgan was not hurt.
One night later, 55-year-old Catherine McConkey of Tazlina was driving east at 10:30 p.m. near Mile 178 when her truck struck a caribou.
She was not injured.
