PORTLAND, Ore. — The University of Oregon Foundation has purchased iconic buildings in Portland’s Old Town district.
The Oregonian reports that the foundation, which manages the university’s endowment, bought the White Stag Block facility for $42.6 million Wednesday.
The White Stag Block includes the Bickel Block Building, the Skidmore Block Building and the White Stag Building. The facility is home to the neon “Portland Oregon” sign that welcomes drivers and pedestrians crossing the river.
The facility’s previous owner, Craig Kelly, says the university became an anchor tenant in 2008 and occupies more than 70 percent of the 137,000-square-foot location.
The university’s website says students there are working on master’s degrees in architecture, strategic communication, business administration, sports product management, law and multimedia journalism.
