EVERETT — A 47-year-old Leavenworth man is dead after a four-vehicle fatality collision on U.S. 2 near Fern Bluff Road on Wednesday.
Around 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Washington State Patrol troopers responded to reports of the crash east of Monroe near milepost 19.
Jason Swanson was driving west on U.S. 2 in a 2017 Ford Flex along with another driver from Gold Bar in a Honda Fit. A driver of a Peterbuilt semitruck was traveling east on U.S. 2 and a fourth unknown vehicle was westbound on U.S. 2 while stopped for traffic, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers said Swanson struck the unknown vehicle stopped for traffic. The force of the crash sent him into the eastbound lane where he was struck by the oncoming Peterbuilt truck. The semitruck pushed Swanson into the Ford Flex, causing three vehicles to come to rest in the westbound lane. The unknown vehicle, which had stopped for traffic in the westbound lane, fled the scene, troopers said.
Swanson was declared deceased at the scene. Two other people were evaluated for injuries at the scene and released.
Troopers closed the highway in both directions and diverted traffic onto Fern Bluff Road until the road reopened before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
