EVERETT — More than 100 homes east of Everett are going to lose water service for more than 24 hours while work is done on a key water transmission line.
Everett’s Public Works department needs to replace a large valve on its “No. 5” line, which carries water from the Spada Lake reservoir down through the Snohomish River Valley to the city.
The water will be turned off at 9 p.m. Tuesday. That’s expected to affect 106 homes either tied directly to the transmission line or who get their water from one of many small water districts in the valley.
The outage is expected to last 27 hours, so there will be no water service all day Wednesday.
All those customers are physically located close to the transmission line between Bickford Avenue in Snohomish and the west side of the river valley.
“No city of Everett customers will be affected,” said Kathleen Baxter, a spokeswoman for the city’s Public Works department.
The city’s larger wholesale customers, such as the Alderwood Water District and Snohomish Water District, also are unlikely to be affected, Baxter said. The city gave those districts advance notice and they have the storage capacity to offset any drop in supply, she said.
In addition to the areas affected by an outage, some water customers farther east in Snohomish and Clearview may experience low water pressure while the work is under way, Baxter said.
The city will have someone manually working a pressure control valve in Snohomish to keep the pressure high during the work period, she said.
