MEDFORD, Ore. — Weather-modification professionals are in Medford to see the city’s fog-clearing technology at the Medford airport.
The Mail Tribune reported that more than a dozen North American Weather Modification Council members gathered Thursday to see the cloud-seeding CASPER system, used to clear fog above the runway, as part of the council’s biannual conference.
The Cable Attached System Providing Effective Relief can clear fog in below-freezing conditions. Last winter it was only needed three times but Airport Operations Director Robert Russell says the CASPER system was used 20 times two years ago.
NAWMC members often work in arid regions, and they gather twice a year to discuss their projects. Earlier this year they met in Long Beach, California, and next spring they will be in Boise, Idaho.
