STEVENS PASS — Packed with 3 feet of snow, the slopes at Stevens Pass will open Tuesday for the season.
Staff had planned to start the season Dec. 1, but had to delay due to little snow in the stretch of the Cascades near Skykomish. The resort only had 8 inches of snow earlier this month.
Stevens Pass, owned by Vail Resorts, aims to open three lifts on Tuesday. Staff can’t open the new lift for this season — the four-seater Kehr’s Chair — until the hill near the resort entrance has more snow.
Once open, Kehr’s Chair will transport double the number of people uphill, compared to the lift it replaced.
The resort launched a new app for this season, too, allowing recreationists to upload passes and tickets on their phones.
Now with 17 more inches of snow, Mt. Baker will also open for skiers and snowboarders this week. Passholders can start using the slopes Wednesday, while the season for non-passholders starts Thursday.
Daily lift tickets at Mt. Baker range from $46.30 to $91.20, depending on the person’s age.
Tickets at Stevens Pass cost between $80 and $735, depending on age and length of stay.
