EVERETT — A woman was fatally struck by a train Thursday evening on tracks in Everett, police said.
Around 8:15 p.m., a westbound Amtrak train traveling from Chicago to Seattle was near Harborview Park, about 5 miles from Everett Station, when it struck the woman on the tracks, Amtrak spokesperson Kelly Just wrote in an email Friday.
It was unclear why the woman was on the tracks. The train was delayed Thursday night as authorities investigated.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased.
This is the third time a train has hit and killed a pedestrian since June along the rail line running parallel to Mukilteo Boulevard.
Around 6 p.m. June 3, another Amtrak passenger train traveling from Seattle to Chicago struck Camryn McKenna, 16, on the track near Harborview Park, according to Amtrak.
About 2½ miles west, a train struck and killed another pedestrian, Maria Dopps, around 1:45 p.m. June 28 near the Mount Baker Terminal, right at the Mukilteo-Everett city boundaries, police said. Dopps, of Everett, was 55.
This year, 15 people have died on Washington railroads, including four in Snohomish County, state Department of Transportation spokesperson Janet Matkin said Friday.
