So the port had to decide against the Collins building. Are they in a hurry to move forward with the waterfront project … or to move on with their lives (Phil, Connie)? Did they forget that the developer has lost financing, and the project is delayed? Our most experienced commissioner, Phil Bannan, is a good representative. He is not pursuing re-election. I would like him to reconsider the Collins decision.
Our other experienced representative is Connie Niva. She’s a good administrator, but on issues important to the people she doesn’t seem to make the connections. She should listen to her constituents and reconsider. She is resigning after purchasing a residence outside of the port district. Michael Hoffmann? He’s been doing what “dad” Phil and “mom” Connie tell him to do. He should reconsider his position, not because someone told him to do it but because he actually cares what his constituents say and could see this building become a great icon for the Everett waterfront and a magnet for bringing the community together. He is to become the “experienced” member and (yikes) Mark Olson is waiting in the wings to scoop up a position in the next election. If Michael needs a new role model I’m not sure I would recommend “uncle” Mark. By the way Mark is “for” the preservation of the Collins building (popular topic that it is).
What will happen to the Collins building? I don’t know. I want it to be preserved even though I have not “personally” been seen at the port meetings saying so. I am one of a thousand and I hope tens of thousands of like minded-residents of Everett that feel this way and will vote this way in the near future.
