This year, my family made the switch from private to public school. I have been so impressed with how the Garfield Elementary School staff welcomed my daughters.
Both of my children are thriving academically, as well as socially and emotionally. I have also begun to substitute teach at the school, and I am even more encouraged by witnessing firsthand the patience and love staff members show to all students.
Every school already has challenging students and there are even more this year affected by the pandemic. Garfield embraces every child no matter his or her circumstances. They truly respect the dignity of every child and take the time to get to know them individually so they can best serve them.
Despite what is a challenging year in many ways, they make every effort to keep kids safe and keep the school open, often I’m sure at a great personal sacrifice. I am so grateful we made the switch. For everyone who has concerns about how levy dollars are spent, I can say I have witnessed resources being put to good use and are needed now more than ever.
