Everett waterfront inspires poetry

The boat launch on the Everett waterfront has always been a special place to me. A place to write and sit with my feet dangling in the water. I enjoy watching the changing seasons, the osprey and heron babies come and go, and the harbor seals curiously peeking over the top of the water.

While sitting there just the other day, I decided to write a quick little poem for you all. Enjoy!

The Boat Launch

As I sit here on the boat launch, this balmy summer day;

The harbor seals peek at me, o’er the top of the gentle waves.

I can’t help but wonder, what’s behind their deep dark eyes;

Such an intelligent spirit, in that silky fur disguise.

As people chatter loudly, and the boats rumble by;

I think fondly of the wintertime when it’s just herons, gulls and I.

I love that bleak, dark season, when the dock is thrashed by waves.

And the mist hides Jetty Island, behind its thick gray haze.

Sometimes the dark clouds gather, and a storm comes rolling in.

The dock is a bucking bronco, that I ride with a crazy grin.

Singing into the blustery wind, my words are swept away;

A song for the love of winter, and a home where I’ll always stay.
