I really had to laugh when I read the response to the pictures of people who’d attended Evergreen College, and the story. (March 6 letter, “Good thing we didn’t get Evergreen.”)
My daughter graduated from there in 1979, and she turned out pretty darn good! It was a good school for her. She didn’t want to finish high school, but we persuaded her she should. She then got in to Evergreen and graduated in the fisheries program. She went to Africa in the Peace Corps, returned after her two years and went to school to graduate from Western to be a teacher. She taught for a few years, then went to office work, culinary field and home care! She went back to school in the computer field, and is now working at Everett Community College in the tutorial program.
There are people who need a school like Evergreen; I couldn’t have attended a school structured like that, but it was a good fit for her and many others. If a school such as this comes here, don’t be afraid of it!
