When we are in a comfort zone, we will resist change. But when that comfort zone ceases to exist and it becomes intolerable, people will demand change. In November, that is exactly what happened and the voters rejected the status quo.
Resisting change can be done through disruption, chaos, disorder and demonstrations which all cause further polarization and hatred. A better option would be to acknowledge that change is desired and to give constructive input on possible ways to find common ground. Having a seat at the table to negotiate change is better than not having any input. We cannot hear when we are shouting at each other.
We all want the same basic things, but the difference is how we navigate to get there. Change isn’t necessarily what we desire, but it is what many Americans demand.
