Mike Hope was quoted in Sunday’s Herald story “Election Connection” that “the ballfields are in jeopardy of closure because of a technicality in state law and the threat of a lawsuit by an activist group called 1000 Friends of Washington.”
Mr. Hope has been misinformed. It is time to set the record straight.
1000 Friends of Washington has never threatened to sue Snohomish County over the siting of the existing ballfields on farmland. In fact, we have asked the County Council repeatedly to change the county code to allow these ballfields to remain where they are.
Changing the state law the way Mike Hope wants will not keep the ballfields where they are. Instead, we support the policy by our state legislators that will grandfather in these fields plus bring home more state money for future ballfields.
If the County Council changes its mind and begins working in this same direction, we will be by their side supporting them in their efforts.
