Regarding a recent letter warning about plastic pollution: For the past six years my wife spent much of her life in the ER, the hospital, a rehab facility, in-home care or a long -term care facility. One thing that one notices in these facilities is the use of plastics everywhere.
Caregivers wear plastic gloves and plastic masks as well as plastic gowns. Plastic bags distribute life giving fluids through plastic tubing to a plastic adaptor/valve in the patient’s arm. Hospital food is served on a plastic tray where the patient eats food in plastic containers using plastic utensils. In short, without plastics there would be no modern medicine, as we now know it.
Grow up. All new technologies have a two-edged sword.
But I see phrases like “paradigm shifts” and “privileged and comfortable society” and conclude those worried about plastics are ignorant left-wing hacks with no scientific or engineering background.
