Thank you for your coverage of LifeWise Academy at Emerson Elementary (“Everett off-campus Bible program draws mixed reaction form parents,” The Herald, April 19).
According to an October 2024 Slate article, the LifeWise curriculum presents a very literal interpretation of the Bible, with Adam and Eve depicted as actual historical figures. Also, they teach that there are only two genders.
The article found reports from a Facebook group that spoke of LifeWise students returning to class with chocolate, lollipops and free T-shirts, and that their own non-LifeWise children often felt left out. There were even reports of children crying at home after being warned about hell from LifeWise classmates.
The national LifeWise organization has worked with Heritage Foundation and Family Research Council, two groups associated with Project 2025.
Let’s keep the public schools and religious groups completely separate, just as our founders intended!
