“Sheeple” is a term meant to accuse one of blindly following scientists, statisticians and journalists.
While often utilized with the same persuasion and self-aggrandizing satisfaction of a finely tuned thesis, the term often indicates projection by the accuser. In the same breath, the “non-sheeperson” will often fiercely suggest that the “sheeperson” do their “homework” or “research.”
This exercise in exploration often coincides with the recommendation of casting away the “liberal agenda” that is The Herald, the Snohomish Health Department, and various other local professionals; in the favor of replacing their knowledge with the rhetorical gaslighting of Ben Shapiro, Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity. In order to free oneself from the odious moniker of “sheeple,” one must submit to conflating confirmation bias with authentic journalism and science. Once the “sheeperson” has successfully recognized that they were subject to the whims of a liberal “deep state,” they can cast off the label of “sheeple,” and rightly sit with their fellow logicians; engaging in stimulating topics, such as QAnon, accusations of pedophila, and that a pizza parlor on the East Coast continues to run an organized human-trafficking racket.
I for one, will proudly reclaim the term sheeple; if it means that I can support my fellow community members at The Herald in their pursuit for answers, as we collectively navigate these challenging times. But what do I know? As I have been so often told, I’m just a member of the unwashed sheeple.
