AquaSox top Volcanoes, snap 5-game losing skid

Josh Stowers has 3 hits, including his 2nd home run of the season, to lead Everett to the 7-4 win.

EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox snapped a five-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 7-4 come-from-behind vicctory over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes before 1,957 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Josh Stowers homered and finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Connor Hoover also blasted his first professional home run leading off the eighth inning and finished with two hits, a double and two RBI for Everett. Charlie McConnell also had a pair of hits for Everett.

David Ellingson (2-0) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings in relief of starter Rob Whalen. Relievers Michael Plassmeyer, Ivan Fortunato and Joey Gerber combined to fan nine while allowing one hit in five innings of relief. Gerber struck out a pair in a scoreless ninth for his fourth save.

Everett took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a pair of hit batters. Ryne Ogren forced in Connor Kopach when he was hit with the bases loaded as Everett took the lead without the benefit of a hit.

Salem-Keizer scored twice in the top of the second as Robinson Medreno scored on an RBI single by Kevin Rivera, and Aaron Bond came home on a fielder’s choice.

Everett tied the game in the bottom of the second when McConnell singled and scored on a wild pitch.

Joey Bart gave the Volcanoes a 4-2 lead in the top of the third with two-run home run, but Stowers answered with a two-run home run of his own for Everett.

Hoover doubled in Troy Dixon as Everett regained the lead at 5-4 through three innings. Everett added another in the fourth when Stowers singled, stole second and scored on an RBI double by Matt Sanders.

Hoover’s solo homer provided Everett’s final run.

The two teams meet at 7:05 p.m. Thursday for the second game of the five-game series.
