INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Motor Speedway says the Brickyard Crossing Inn will close and be demolished.
The 96-room motel at the eastern edge of the speedway was built in 1963.
Speedway President and chief executive Joie Chitwood says the motel will be closed immediately and be razed in coming months.
The speedway is weighing options for the motel property, including a new hotel.
About 15 workers will lose jobs due to the closing.
The main Brickyard Crossing building, which houses a restaurant, a pub, a golf pro shop and conference space, will remain open.
The motel has housed several Indianapolis 500 drivers during the race month of May, and scenes from Paul Newman’s movie “Winning” were filmed in rooms at the motel.
